  • Scout group of both girls and boys.

Pride is completely endorsed by the Scout movement, and it’s only right that we have a presence to let the public know this. We are welcoming and embrace the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Ashford Branch of the Green Party of England & Wales.

We are a local political party that promotes inclusivity. We have members from the LGBTQ+ community and the rest are allies. We have supported LGBTQ+ members to stand for election and have been successful in getting a trans man elected onto Ashford Borough Council. We are working with the council to promote more inclusivity including a regular LGBTQ+ social event.

  • We use the account to remember our friend Sam who took his own life in 2020 due to transphobia related bullying. We also use to page to raise awareness of teen suicide and signpost people about where to receive help.

We provide awareness of the LGBT+ plus community, specifically the trans-community, and where people can seek help if they are experiencing homophobia and transphobia in the lives, ensuring them that they are never alone and there is always someone looking out for them.

  • BLUF is a global not-for-profit organisation for men who enjoy wearing breeches and leather uniforms. Founded in 1997, there are now over 4,000 members worldwide, and many of us meet in person at BLUF events.

The Leather Community has been a recognizable part of LGBTQ+ subculture since before the first steps towards decriminalisation in the UK were taken in 1967. Inevitably, however, such a niche interest makes it challenging to meet like-minded friends - especially outside of large cities like London, Manchester and Birmingham. The participation of BLUF in Pride Canterbury allows us to make visible one facet of the diversity within the LGBTQ+ Community and to provide an opportunity to educate and inform the wider community about the leather scene. Providing a visible presence also serves as a valuable point of contact for those who may be interested in the leather scene but need a point of entry to meet like-minded people.

  • Canterbury and Coastal Liberal Democrats - the local party of the Liberal Democrats (political party).

The Liberal Democrats campaign to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society. As part of this, the LGBTQ+ Liberal Democrats ensure that the party’s policies support the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ candidates and members. Canterbury Liberal Democrats have supported Pride, both through the Parade and a Lib Dem stall, in recent years. We look forward to continuing our support for this fantastic event.

As county councillors we can directly represent your concerns on education, care services, roads, transport infrastructure and the local economy.

The Labour Party and those in the wider Labour movement have delivered monumental change for the LGBT+ community time and time again. In 1975 the Gay Labour Caucus was formed by a number of Labour Party members who were previously active within the Young Socialists and the Campaign for Homosexual Equality. Through their organising and lobbying they began to give the community a voice within the Party and the Labour movement. This organisation later became the Labour Campaign for Lesbian and Gay Rights, and eventually LGBT+ Labour. In 1989, Sir Ian McKellen and Lisa Power MBE, alongside former Labour politician Lord Cashman CBE co-founds Stonewall in response to the introduction of the pernicious Section 28 by the Thatcher government. In government, following a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights, the Labour Government lifted the ban on lesbians, gay men and bi people serving in the armed forces, and later passed the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act, lowering the age of consent for those in same-sex relationships from 18 to 16. Labour repealed Section 28 in 2003, the homophobic clause introduced by the Thatcher govt banned councils and schools from “promoting homosexuality”. Labour introduced the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations, making it illegal to discriminate against LGB people in the workplace and in vocational training. This is the first time that protections for LGB people in the workplace were enshrined in UK law. In 2004, Labour passed the Civil Partnership Act, granting civil partnerships in the UK. The Act gave same-sex couples mostly the same rights as married straight couples. It was the first time that the legal status of same-sex relationships was fully acknowledged in law. This was followed by the Gender Recognition Act, allowing Trans people to have their true gender recognised in law.

A Gaddum and LGBT Foundation short survey showed that 68% Of LGBTQ+ Carers they spoke to felt that support services needed to take steps to become more LGBTQ+ friendly.
